Microtubule-drug interactions: A major focus of his research is to elucidate structural changes in the dynamics of tubulin/microtubule interactions with endogenous microtubule associated proteins (MAPs) and antitumor drugs in order to inform biological mechanisms and patient care. Hydrogen-deuterium exchange (HDX) and Mass Spectrometry (MS) has been used to examine drug-microtubule-protein interactions.

Metabolite function discovery: With the enormous successes that have been realized in high-throughput genome sequencing, major opportunities and challenges now exist in the areas of functional annotation and metabolite discovery. He had observed that approximately 3-5% of the structures deriving from E. coli-expressed material contain a non-metal ligand that has persisted through purification and crystallization. His interest is to utilize the inherent mass accuracy and efficiency of high-resolution mass spectrometry to develop a unique pipeline for metabolite discovery and functional annotation.
